1-Naphthol is a bicyclic phenol.[1] The physical properties and sensory feel of 1-Naphthol in a finished product may vary depending on the concentration used, the other ingredients used with it, the formula's acidity, and manufacturing conditions. In cosmetics, it is used to color hair.[3] In Europe, it may be used as a coloring ingredient in oxidative hair dyes, at a maximum concentration of 2.0% when the product is mixed immediately before use and applied to the hair.[2]
