COSRXThe Alpha-Arbutin 2 Discoloration Care SerumI use this around my period or when I get acne, and since I haven't gotten any noticeable acne scars since I started using it, I wonder if that's thanks to this? It seems to work on dark spots, freckles, and skin clarity too, but I don't use it every day, so I can't really say. Also, I use it specifically for its soothing effect, so it's not particularly moisturizing or anything. I think it's good to apply it to my skin as a precaution when my skin is acting up, then get moisture from other skincare products. I'll keep counting on its soothing effect!

COSRXThe Vitamin C 13 SerumI had been using COSRX C23 for a while, but this one is cheaper, so I thought I'd give C13 a try and see if it worked... and bought this one for now. It didn't feel very oily, and the stickiness wasn't enough to bother me. There were some days when it tingled a little, but the irritation was never so strong that I couldn't use it. The canned tuna smell hasn't bothered me since the reformulation either! It was lightweight and easy to use in the morning too. There were times when my dullness seemed to fade and my skin looked brighter, but I didn't notice anything like my pores getting smaller or less noticeable.

OrbisAdvanced Brightening SerumThis is a brightening serum I used and loved for about 5 years! I started using it when I began noticing dark spots, and although I sometimes strayed and tried other brightening serums along the way, I ended up using this one for a long time I used it for about 5 years, from age 33 to 38, and really felt like it kept my dark spots from getting worse. Rather than caring for existing dark spots, I used it because I felt like “I don’t want to get any more dark spots and want to keep preventing them.” It’s 4,950 yen for 36 mL. In my case, one bottle lasted about 1.5 months, so it came to around 3,300 yen per month. The relatively affordable price for a brightening serum was another reason I was able to keep using it for so long. I tried other products here and there, but this was ultimately a favorite that I kept using for about 5 years. I recommend it for preventive care if you don’t have many dark spots yet, or for anyone who wants to keep up with brightening care while prioritizing value for money! I wanted to take my skincare more seriously, so I doubled my budget and now use a different brightening serum.

COSRXThe Alpha-Arbutin 2 Discoloration Care SerumI tried it because it seemed like it might help with melasma and skin redness, but after one bottle, I couldn't really tell if it had any effect. In a good way, it barely feels like anything on the skin, so I think it works fine slotted into a routine like toner → this → other serums. It does feel a little sticky, but not enough to really bother me. It didn't irritate my skin, so it's not that it doesn't agree with me, but I guess I won't know unless I keep using it a little longer... I'd seen a lot of promos that made it seem like it would work quickly, so it was a bit of a letdown. There are other products I'm interested in too, so I'm not considering repurchasing for now.

AstaliftWhite Jelly AquarystaI feel like Astalift White Jelly makes my skin look plumper! When I apply this right after washing my face, I feel like the toner I use afterward absorbs better too! Whenever I use Astalift, my skin behaves so much better.

KoséSekkisei Brightening Essence LotionIt feels so nice on my skin when I chill it in the fridge before using it! I liked how it felt better with a cotton pad than with my hands🎶 Since it's so lightweight, it might not be moisturizing enough for people with dry skin. When it's not enough, I layer a different toner on top!

NumbuzinNo.3 Skin Softening SerumNumbuzin No.3 Skin Softening Serum I use it as my morning and evening serum. It has a viscous texture, but it doesn't feel too heavy and has a light feel that's easy to blend into the skin. Even though it's viscous, it feels thoroughly moisturizing, while still being easy to use in my morning skincare routine, and I liked that it didn't feel too heavy even before makeup. At night, I've been incorprating it before emulsion and cream, and I feel like it smooths out my skin texture. I think it's a convenient serum that's easy to incorporate both morning and night.

HAKUMelanofocus EVI've been using it for a long time because I want to lighten my skin. It feels cool when I apply it to my skin. It doesn't fade dark spots or anything, so I apply it every night to prevent them ◎ I can't really say it definitely works! so if I find a good alternative, I might switch to that.

MediCubeTXA Niacinamide 15% SerumI used this to brighten my skin tone and help with dark spots and dullness. Honestly, I didn't really notice much of a visible effect. The texture is light and not too sticky, but sometimes it did feel a little tacky. It doesn't feel all that moisturizing. Rather than giving dramatic results, I think it's the kind of product you use long-term and hope to see gradual changes with.

ObagiNeo C25 Vitamin C SerumThis is a high-concentration vitamin C serum. I've kept using it to prevent dark spots. I've tried a lot of vitamin C serums, but I like the quality of this one and how well it absorbs. It has an oily texture, but it's also nice how it sinks right in. I can definitely tell that it's effective at preventing dark spots. As for making them lighter... it doesn't seem like it has... But I think it does a really good job of preventing dark spots while I'm using it. It's the best product for dark spot prevention. Honestly, I also think the cheaper, more affordable Melano CC might be good enough. I think consistency is the most important thing, and Obagi 25 is a little too expensive for me, so I'm not sure if I can keep using it... If I could afford to keep using it, Obagi 25 would be the best, though. Also, this isn't limited to Obagi 25 and applies to vitamin C products in general, but the higher the concentration, the more residue it leaves on your skin if you don't properly wash it off. It's clear when you apply it, but after a few hours it oxidizes and turns a yellowish to pinkish color. Quite a bit of that color stays behind if you don't remove it thoroughly with cleanser... Since Obagi 25 has a high concentration, the color after applying it bothered me quite a bit. It also stains the collars of white clothes, so I thought that's something you need to be careful about... As far as effectiveness goes, it's an incredibly excellent and reliable serum, but it seems like it needs to be handled with care.

AstaliftWhite Jelly AquarystaRecommended when you're concerned about dullness or acne. After using it consistently, I feel like I've been getting fewer little bumps. When I stopped using it for a while, my skin started looking dull, so now I keep using it. It feels like it absorbs well into my skin, and while it's not that moisturizing on its own, using this together with toner leaves my skin more moisturized than usual. It's slightly orange in color, so I use it at night rather than in the morning. It doesn't noticeably tint my skin, but when I used a sheet mask afterward, some of the color transferred onto the sheet, so I just kind of avoid using it in the morning.

CliniqueEven Better Active Booster SerumA brightening booster serum. Since it's medicated, I think it's easy to use even for people like me who are prone to acne. I have oily skin, and overly rich textures give me comedones, so I prefer something this lightweight. And a lot of lightweight products tend to have weaker ingredients, but this one actually does its job as a serum, so it's one of my favorites. As I kept using it, I could tell that my skin looked clearer in the morning. It's a little too expensive for me to buy every month, so 4 stars. But if I were rich, I'd want to keep several backups on hand.

HAKUMelanofocus IVI bought this because I wanted to stay consistent with my brightening care. My skin is thin and prone to redness, so I use it on days when my skin is doing well and take a break on days when it feels sensitive. I started my first bottle on March 12 and finished it on August 31. I didn't use it every morning and night, so in my case, it lasted about five and a half months. The texture is fresh and glides smoothly over the skin. It doesn't feel very sticky after it absorbs, so it's also easy to use before makeup in the morning. I sometimes use it together with POLA White Shot, and I also like that it doesn't feel too heavy. The full-size bottle costs 11,000 yen, so honestly, I thought it was expensive when I bought it. But with the way I use it, one bottle lasted about five and a half months, so it actually works out to around 2,000 yen a month. It was easier to keep using than I expected. I'm also happy that refills are available. Instead of transferring the contents, you replace the entire inner container, so it was easy. After I finished it, the pouch inside had shriveled down really small, and I like being able to see that I really used every last bit! I'm now on my second bottle and have been repurchasing the refill. When I bought mine, there was a campaign where you could receive a special 20 g size if you purchased two eligible HAKU products and applied using the product barcodes. I was already planning to keep using it, so I bought two at once and applied, and it arrived at my home later as promised. The regular size is 45 g, so I was happy that 20 g was a generous amount that I could get plenty of use out of! It's not cheap, but it feels good to use and is easy to work into my routine at my own pace while keeping an eye on how my skin is doing, so for now, it's a brightening serum I want to continue using.

FATUITEBrightest First EssenceIf fermented skincare works for you, definitely buy this! First, the fact that it's a spray even though it's a first-step serum. So good. With a first-step serum, you have to get out of the bath, dry your body, wrap your hair in a towel, dry your face, go to the sink, dispense it into your hand, and apply it. Doesn't that take quite a few steps and a fair amount of time? Since this first-step serum is a spray, it's practically hands-free! (Though you do need a finger to press the pump) If you leave it within reach in the changing area, you can spritz it on in one second as soon as you get out of the bath! Skincare with convenient features like this often doesn't actually perform that well, but this one properly does its job as a serum too! It might be pretty rich for a first-step serum? It leaves my skin so plump all by itself that I feel like it could even be used as a regular serum. With how easy it is to apply and how good the formula is, this is a product I definitely want to repurchase. I do occasionally see people who don't get along with fermented ingredients, but I'd recommend it to everyone else. This is the only product I've used from FATUITE, but it was so good that it made me want to try their other products too!

manyoGalactomy Niacin EssenceThe right way to use this is generously. If you apply about as much as you would toner right after washing your face, it smooths out your skin texture and makes you less prone to skin issues. You'll notice when you stop using it. It stings a little when your skin is irritated or acting up, so in that case it's best to use an appropriate amount after toner.
-
COSRXAdvanced The Vitamin C 23 SerumThis is my second bottle. It was reformulated once, and I don't really notice the distinctive smell that used to bother me anymore. Since it's a vitamin serum, it can sometimes feel a little tingly and irritating depending on the condition of your skin. Among vitamin C derivative serums, it's a good value and I recommend it. When I use it, my pores feel tighter. I recommend using it in the morning. It took me about three months to finish one bottle, but starting around the second month, I gradually began to notice the color changing due to oxidation. It seems best to use a generous amount and finish it as soon as possible.

SKIN1004Madagascar Centella Tone Brightening Capsule AmpouleI like SKIN1004 products, so I bought this thinking I'd try a different ampoule for a change. I can't really tell whether the brightening effect is working or not. The hydration is so-so, and it has white capsules? in it, but even when I carefully blend it in, they sometimes remain around the edges of my face. There are plenty of other ampoules out there for toning care, so my impression is that I probably wouldn't go out of my way to choose this one... That said, it doesn't cause any irritation, so it's a safe enough option to use.

Meishoku Brilliant ColorsKeana Beaute VC15 EssenceI don't like skincare products that feel very sticky, and this one was extremely sticky, so I'm sorry to say I threw it away. I want a vitamin C serum to have a light, non-sticky texture.

KoséSekkisei Brightening Essence LotionAnyway, it's a lightweight, watery lotion that's easy to use in summer, and if you put it in the fridge, it feels cool and is even nicer to use. Since it's the type of liquid that doesn't interfere with makeup, I recommend it before applying makeup. It has a distinctive scent too, and I like it. It doesn't feel moisturizing, but I somehow feel like my skin calms down when I use it. As for the brightening effect, I've gone through about three bottles, but I couldn't really tell. Using it gives me peace of mind, so I use it in the morning, and I think I'll keep repurchasing it.
