About Xanthan Gum

Xanthan Gum is a high-molecular-weight heteropolysaccharide gum obtained by pure-culture fermentation of carbohydrates by a bean-wilt bacterium.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to help formulation ingredients bind together and maintain their form, create emulsions in which water and oil are evenly mixed, and prevent the emulsified water-and-oil state from separating easily.[2] It is also used to give liquid formulations a gel-like form and viscosity, leave the skin surface soft and smooth, and lower surface tension so raw materials can wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2] It is used to control the viscosity and flow of a formulation.[2]
