About Tea-Laureth-4 Phosphate
Tea-Laureth-4 Phosphate is a triethanolamine salt of a complex mixture of Laureth-4 phosphate esters.[1] The number 4 at the end of the name indicates the average number of ethylene oxide units added. It changes the balance between water-loving and oil-loving parts, resulting in differences in cleansing power, emulsifying ability, and skin feel. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsified formulas in which water and oil are evenly mixed and to lower surface tension so ingredients wet, mix, and spread evenly.[3] In Europe, the maximum level is 2.5% in leave-on products, with no separate maximum concentration specified for rinse-off products. Nitrosamines must also be no higher than 50 μg/kg.[2]
