About Sodium Laureth-7 Sulfate

Sodium Laureth-7 Sulfate is the sodium salt of the sulfate ester of the polyethylene glycol ether of lauryl alcohol.[1] The number 7 at the end of the name indicates the average number of ethylene oxide units added; it changes the balance between the water-loving and oil-loving portions, resulting in differences in cleansing power, emulsifying ability, and feel. In cosmetics, it is used to help sebum and impurities wash away with water, to form foam during use, and to lower surface tension so ingredients can wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
