About Sodium Laureth-3 Carboxylate
Sodium Laureth-3 Carboxylate is the sodium salt of the carboxylic acid derived from Laureth-3.[1] The number 3 at the end of the name refers to the average number of ethylene oxide units added, changing the balance between the water-loving and oil-loving portions and creating differences in cleansing power, emulsifying ability, and skin feel. In cosmetics, it is used to help sebum and dirt rinse away with water, create emulsified formulas in which water and oil are evenly mixed, and form foam during use.[2] It is also used to lower surface tension so raw materials wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
