About Sodium C16-18 Olefin Sulfonate
Sodium C16-18 Olefin Sulfonate is a mixture of long-chain sulfonate salts obtained by sulfonating C16-18 alpha olefins. It consists mainly of sodium alkene sulfonates and sodium hydroxyalkane sulfonates. Because it is a form in which ions that pair with acidic components are bound, its solubility in water and behavior in a formulation may differ from those of the original acid, while the type of counterion can also affect acidity and compatibility with other raw materials.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to help wash away sebum and impurities with water, form foam during use, and lower surface tension so raw materials can wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
