About Silica

Silica is an inorganic oxide.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to physically remove deposits from the surface of the skin or teeth, absorb liquids such as water or oil in a formulation, and help powder ingredients flow evenly without forming lumps.[3] It is also used to increase the volume of a formulation and adjust the amount of solids, reduce light transmission so the contents appear less translucent, and control the viscosity and flow of a formulation.[3] It is described as crystalline and having no noticeable odor, so evenly dispersing the particles throughout the formulation is important to prevent clumping or settling.[2]
