About Polyurethane-17
Polyurethane-17 is a complex polymer obtained by neutralizing a hexylene glycol/neopentyl glycol/adipic acid/SMDI/DMAPA copolymer with triethylamine in the presence of water, followed by chain extension through reaction with ethylenediamine.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to form a thin film on the surface of the skin, hair, and nails after application.[3] In Europe, it may be used at up to 2.5% in leave-on products; no separate maximum concentration is specified for rinse-off products. Nitrosamines must also be no more than 50 μg/kg.[2]
