About Polyquaternium-62
Polyquaternium-62 is a polymerized quaternary ammonium salt obtained by reacting butyl methacrylate, polyethylene glycol methyl ether methacrylate, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate, 2-methacryloyloxyethyl trimethylammonium chloride, and 2,2'-azobis(2-methylpropionamidine) dihydrochloride.[1] The number 62 following Polyquaternium is only an identification number distinguishing different Polyquaterniums; it does not indicate content or molecular size. Its positively charged portion is used to reduce static in hair and leave a thin film. In cosmetics, it is used to form a thin film on the surface of the skin, hair, or nails after application and to hold the desired hair shape in place.[2]
