About PEG/PPG-5/30 Tocopheryl Ether
PEG/PPG-5/30 Tocopheryl Ether is a raw material obtained by reacting an average of 30 moles of propylene oxide and an average of 5 moles of ethylene oxide.[1] The number 5 after PPG indicates the average number of linked propylene oxide units; this number and the type of fatty component attached to it affect oil miscibility and application feel. In cosmetics, it is used to keep powder ingredients flowing evenly without clumping, slow oxidation of formula ingredients caused by reactions with oxygen, and help ingredients bind together to maintain the formulation's shape.[2] It is also used to create evenly mixed water-and-oil emulsions, help prevent them from separating, and add flexibility so films or polymer layers do not become excessively rigid.[2] It is used to leave the skin surface feeling soft and smooth, lower surface tension so ingredients can wet, mix, and spread evenly, and reduce changes to the product and formula ingredients caused by ultraviolet light.[2]
