About PEG-7/PPG-2 Propylheptyl Ether

PEG-7/PPG-2 Propylheptyl Ether is an ingredient obtained by reacting 2-propylheptanol with an average of 7 moles of ethylene oxide and 2 moles of propylene oxide.[1] The number 7 in the name indicates the average number of added ethylene oxide units. For the same base structure, changes in this number may also affect how readily it mixes with water and the formula's viscosity and spreadability. In cosmetics, it is used to help sebum and impurities rinse away with water, to create emulsified formulas in which water and oil are evenly mixed, and to help the formula maintain its state and properties during storage.[2] It is also used to lower surface tension so ingredients wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
