About PEG-5 Pentaerythrityl Dimethylol Propionate-4 Dendrimer

PEG-5 Pentaerythrityl Dimethylol Propionate-4 Dendrimer is a highly branched polymer obtained through sequential reactions of 4 moles of dimethylpropionic acid and the ethoxylate of 5 moles of pentaerythritol.[1] The number 5 in the name indicates the average number of ethylene oxide units added. Within the same base structure, changing this number may affect water miscibility and the formulation’s viscosity and spreadability. In cosmetics, it is used to absorb liquids in the formulation, such as water or oil, to help the ingredients in a formulation bond together and maintain its form, and to prevent emulsions of water and oil from separating easily.[2] It is also used to form a thin film on the skin, hair, and nail surfaces after application and to hold the desired hair shape in place.[2]
