About PEG-5 Hydrogenated Corn Glycerides

PEG-5 Hydrogenated Corn Glycerides is a polyethylene glycol derivative of mixed glycerides obtained from hydrogenated corn oil, with an average of 5 moles of ethylene oxide. The number 5 in the name represents the average number of added ethylene oxide units; for the same base structure, changing this number may alter water miscibility and the formulation’s viscosity and spreadability.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsions in which water and oil are evenly mixed, and to lower surface tension so ingredients wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
