About PEG-40 Soy Sterol
PEG-40 Soy Sterol is a polyethylene glycol derivative of sterols obtained from soybean oil, with an average of 40 moles of ethylene oxide.[1] The number 40 in the name indicates the average number of added ethylene oxide units. Within the same base structure, changing this number may affect water miscibility and the viscosity and spreadability of the formulation. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsified formulations in which water and oil are evenly mixed, and to reduce surface tension so ingredients can wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
