About PEG-40 Sorbitan Lanolate

PEG-40 Sorbitan Lanolate is an ethoxylated sorbitan derivative of lanolin acid with an average of 40 moles of ethylene oxide.[1] The number 40 in the name indicates the average number of added ethylene oxide units. For the same base structure, changes in this number may also affect how readily it mixes with water and the formula's viscosity and spreadability. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsified formulas in which water and oil are evenly mixed and to lower surface tension so ingredients wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
