About PEG-40 Lanolin

PEG-40 Lanolin is a polyethylene glycol derivative of lanolin with an average of 30 moles of ethylene oxide.[1] The number 40 in the name indicates the average number of added ethylene oxide units; with the same base structure, changing this number may affect water miscibility and the viscosity and spreadability of the formulation. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsified formulations in which water and oil are evenly mixed, and to lower surface tension so ingredients can wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
