About PEG-40 Glyceryl Triisostearate

PEG-40 Glyceryl Triisostearate is a triester of the polyethylene glycol ether of glycerin and isostearic acid.[1] The number 40 in the name indicates the average number of ethylene oxide units added. With the same base structure, changing this number can affect water miscibility as well as the viscosity and spreadability of the formulation. In cosmetics, it is used to reduce friction on the skin or hair and add a smooth feel, and to create emulsified formulations in which water and oil are evenly mixed.[2]
