About PEG-16 Hydrogenated Castor Oil
PEG-16 Hydrogenated Castor Oil is a polyethylene glycol derivative of hydrogenated castor oil containing an average of 16 moles of ethylene oxide.[1] The number 16 in the name indicates the average number of added ethylene oxide units; within the same base structure, changing this number may affect water miscibility and the viscosity and spreadability of the formulation. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsified formulations in which water and oil are evenly mixed and to lower surface tension so ingredients wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
