About Laureth-8

Laureth-8 is a polyethylene glycol ether of lauryl alcohol with an average n of 8.[1] The number 8 at the end of the name refers to the average number of ethylene oxide units added. It changes the balance between the water-loving and fat-loving portions, resulting in differences in cleansing power, emulsifying ability, and feel. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsified formulations in which water and oil are evenly mixed and to reduce surface tension so that raw materials wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
