About Laureth-16

Laureth-16 is a polyethylene glycol ether of lauryl alcohol, with an average of 16 ethylene oxide units.[1] The number 16 at the end of the name indicates the average number of added ethylene oxide units; in turn, it changes the balance between water-loving and oil-loving portions, resulting in differences in cleansing ability, emulsifying ability, and sensory feel. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsions in which water and oil are evenly mixed and to reduce surface tension so ingredients can wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
