About Lanolin

Lanolin is a soft, fat-like substance secreted by the sebaceous glands of sheep, consisting of a complex mixture of esters of high-molecular-weight aliphatic steroids or triterpenoid alcohols and fatty acids.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to reduce static electricity that causes hair strands to lift or stick together, lower friction on the skin or hair and add a smooth feel, and create emulsified formulations in which water and oil are evenly mixed.[2] It is also used to reduce hair tangling and roughness for smoother grooming, leave the skin's surface feeling soft and smooth, and lower surface tension so ingredients can wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
