About Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose
Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose is the propylene glycol ether of methylcellulose.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to reduce static electricity that causes hair strands to lift or stick together, help ingredients in the formulation bind to maintain its form, and prevent emulsions of water and oil from separating easily.[2] It is also used to form a thin film on the skin, hair, or nail surface after application, to lower surface tension so ingredients can wet, mix, and spread evenly, and to adjust the viscosity and flow of the formulation.[2]
