About Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate
Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate is an ester of 2-ethylhexyl alcohol and methoxycinnamic acid.[1] It has a structure that absorbs specific wavelengths of ultraviolet radiation and converts them into other energy, and is used within permitted product types and concentrations to reduce the amount of ultraviolet radiation reaching the skin. In cosmetics, it is used to help reduce changes to products and formula ingredients caused by ultraviolet radiation, and to absorb or reflect ultraviolet radiation to reduce the amount reaching the skin.[4] In Europe, it is permitted at up to 10% when used as a UV-filtering ingredient.[2] It is described as a colorless to light-yellow viscous liquid, so the order and temperature used when mixing it with other liquid raw materials affect the uniformity of the finished product.[3]
