About Dimethyl Tallowamine

Dimethyl Tallowamine is a tertiary aliphatic amine derived from tallow acid.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to reduce static electricity that causes hair strands to lift or cling together, reduce friction on the skin or hair and add a smooth feel, and create emulsified formulations in which water and oil are evenly mixed.[3] It is also used to reduce hair tangling and roughness and leave hair smoothly groomed.[3] In Europe, it may be used at up to 2.5% in leave-on products; no separate maximum concentration is specified for rinse-off products. Nitrosamines must also be no more than 50 μg/kg.[2]
