About Diethylaminoethyl PEG-5 Laurate

Diethylaminoethyl PEG-5 Laurate is a substituted amine of an ethoxylated ester of lauric acid.[1] The number 5 in the name indicates the average number of ethylene oxide units added; within the same basic structure, changing this number may also change water miscibility and the viscosity and spreadability of the formula. In cosmetics, it is used to reduce static electricity that causes hair strands to lift or stick to one another, to help sebum and impurities rinse away with water, and to create emulsions in which water and oil are evenly mixed.[2] It is also used to help form foam during use and to lower surface tension so raw materials wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
