About Cetearyl Alcohol

Cetearyl Alcohol is a mixture of fatty alcohols consisting primarily of cetyl and stearyl alcohols.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to reduce friction on the skin or hair and add a smooth feel, create emulsified formulas in which water and oil are evenly mixed, and prevent the emulsified mixture of water and oil from separating easily.[2] It is also used to increase the amount of foam and help it last, reduce light transmission so the contents appear less translucent, and lower surface tension so raw materials can wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2] It is used to adjust the viscosity and flow of formulas.[2]
